Unexpected Summer Cleaning Tips
Even though our options for summer fun are few and far between compared to past summers, the one thing we still can do to relieve stress—or just feel a bit more in control—is to keep our spaces clean.
With more focus on socially distanced activities, it’s probable that you are having more backyard cookouts or doing crazy science experiments in the back yard with the kids. That means more foot traffic, dirt, and grime than before.
After cleaning for over seven years in Owasso, Custom Maid has some unexpected summer cleaning tips for you that will have your space feeling comfy, cozy, and clean all over again.
1. Tackle the Washers
When’s the last time you cleaned either your dishwasher or your washer for your clothes? It’s been a long time, hasn’t it?
Cleaning in these two places will go a long way, especially in the summer when humidity is high and you’re using both items more due to events and outings.
For the dishwasher, fill a bowl or cup with a water and vinegar solution, put it in and let it run. This will clean the space and eliminate odor.
For the washer, simply throw in your regular washing detergent and run a cycle on the hot or antibacterial wash setting. Afterward, open the lid and allow it to air out.
2. Turn Lemons Into Cleaning Solutions
Another green—and also budget-friendly—cleaning option for this summer is using lemons to help clean and deodorize your kitchen area. Lemons and baking soda also pair together to make a powerful tool for cleaning out your sink garbage disposal.
It’s especially good for steel fixtures and faucets. Simply wipe them down with the lemon and follow behind with a cloth.
3. Use the Power of Vinegar
As we’ve mentioned previously, vinegar is a great cleaning tool that can clean just about anywhere in your house. The best part about it is that it’s cost friendly and considered a green cleaning solution, meaning you won’t have to worry about harmful chemicals in your home.
When cleaning with vinegar, consider throwing on some fans or opening the windows because of the powerful smell. Then, after diluting your vinegar a bit with water, use it to wipe down your kitchen, the bathroom, and your walls and windows if you’re doing a full deep clean.
4. Clean Your Fans
If you think about it, most of us have fans circulating all day long, whether they are on the ceiling, the floor or on desks. Dust and dirt will stay on the blades for months if not ever cleaned, leading to health issues such as asthma, allergies and generally stuffiness of the home.
You’ll want to take the cleaning solution of your choice and wipe off each fan blade, especially on the side that doesn’t see much light of day. If there is a cover for the fan, make sure to wipe that down too.
5. Disinfect at the End
A common cleaning mistake is for people to disinfect areas before they actually clean them, not allowing themselves to use the full power of their disinfection products.
Once you’ve cleaned the whole house, then its time to go around and disinfect your high-touch areas at the last. These are places you wouldn’t normally think of but are touched all the time, such as:
Lightswitches.
Doorknobs.
Toilet covers.
Toilet handles.
Towel racks.
Faucets.
Blinds.
Window sills.
